It was a great game and tbh Arsenal were the better team and could and should have scored more. There were at least 3 chances where on another day we would have scored.
The first came from a sweeping move with Adebayor passing the ball to Hleb who expertly controlled it and laid it off to van Persie but he skied it.
Next was the move in which Fabregas laid the ball to van Persie and that was a world class save because Cech was being blocked by at least 2 players and couldn’t see the ball. Fabregas’ follow-up was good enough as he was under pressure but not enough to beat Cech.
The last was Bendtner showing good footwork to pass to Fabregas when he had a shooting chance himself. Fabregas dummied the goalkeeper but Cole threw himself in the way. Not many people even knew the final whistle had gone.
I thought Fabregas was unlucky not to score. And there were 2 chances which 1 the assistant got right and the other the referee I think got it wrong.
Adebayor delayed his pass to Rosicky who then crossed to a free van Persie. He made no mistake and planted the ball into the bottom corner. But the goal was ruled out because Rosicky was offside.
Then I thought Adebayor did brilliantly when he chested down a long ball and spin his marker before slotting home. The ref called for a foul on Ade but I couldn’t see it nor could the commentators.
Anyway about Gallas’ goal, it was a striker’s goal as Wenger puts it. Of all the people to score, it had to be him and off a Cech mistake too. I think everyone played well, including Adebayor.
Looked shaky when he pushed away Sheva’s shot but then when he had to be assured he was. Long range shots were dealt with comfortably and he collected some crosses quite well.
Good defending and didn’t give an inch. Not a misplaced pass the whole game.
Defended with heart, another composed display.
Captain Marvel. People may doubt his height but noone can doubt his ability to head the ball. He was being marked by 2 defenders and still got the header in.
Wright-Phillips had nowhere a sniff near the goal except that one chance which he put wide. In the end, Joe Cole came onto Clichy’s side but Clichy still dealt with him well. Never say die attitude symbolises the whole team.
I thought it was one of his best games this season. He didn’t complain as much and the ref was wise enough to watch the challenge rather than the way he goes down. His dribbling was good when in tight situations.
Gave heart and soul into it. He was everywhere. One moment attacking and the next helping out the defence. His fitness shows like he hasn’t been out at all.
Got an assist and on another day, might have got a goal. He being back in the side suddenly jolted the side back into the Arsenal we know. His passing and movement were a menace for Chelsea all game. And he is getting better with his freekicks. Soon, he’ll be banging them in too.
A good game where his passing and linkup play was good, while also did his fair share of defending. He managed to shut out Ferreira from bombing forward. Unlucky to be offside when he crossed for van Persie.
Could see he lacked abit sharpness but still his holding up of the ball and dribbling have been sorely missed in the past few games.
A good game from him and again I don’t know how the ref robbed him of a goal. He was much stronger today and worked very hard. His workrate was certainly on show.
Van Persie 7
Instantly he made an impact when he came on. First a cross then a shot which both caused Chelsea’s defence problems. Missed a glorious opportunity but when he did put the ball in the net, he was unlucky it didn’t stand. More to come from him.
Did his job by protecting the backline.
A good player and showed his composure in setting up Fabregas. He didn’t lack confidence to shoot but instead was unselfish.
Back to winning ways and we should expect the same squad to play next weekend against Spurs. 3 points are expected as Man Utd are currently on our tails. The Gunners are on form, but they are certainly not at their best yet.
