Gilberto Silva : The Rise & Fall

From Captain Fantastic to a player that cant even complete a five yard pass in a year. What has happened to The Invisible Wall? Has why has he turned into possible our worst player this season?

I think Gilberto has suffered from a number of problems this year:

1) Playing in the Copa America which essentially cost him his spot at the beginning of the year because even after he came back he wasn’t ready to play.

2) Flamini taking his chance and making it near impossible for Wenger to pull him.

3) His poor performances, which I think are mostly down to his limited playing time and the entire situation (i.e. losing the captaincy, etc…). I mean a guy doesn’t go from a captain to bench fodder in one summer – especially a summer in which he captains Brazil to the Copa America trophy and last season was our best player.

Is this the end of the road at Arsenal for Gilberto? I sure as hell hope so. I dont understand how one player can transform so much in such a short period of time. As vital as he has been in seasons past he looks like total crap whenever he is played.

He Just keeps giving the ball away, making poor passes and not really closing down enough on defense. It is terrible to see him having to play in the middle as he use to be our rock. But its painful to watch, It Gilberto was a race horse then he would be put down.

But what has happened to Gilberto? In the Carling Cup games he was not even given the Captains armband? Has there been a bust up with Wenger that we don’t know about? Has this affected his game? And if yes then why has he not been sold? What is even more worrying is the decision to sell Diarra and Keep Gilberto.

If you are going to blog, please ensure you have a basic grasp of English first…. ‘What is even more worrying is the decision to sell Diarra and Kept Gilberto’

He and Lehman were your best players on Saturday. The rest were a disgrace…. Even when Tottenham humiliated you the other week you showed more balls. Premiership? Champions League? After a performance like that you have to be joking….

If you knew anything at all about football you would know that a couple of poor performances in cup competitions does not mean that Arsenal will not win the Premier League. There were huge mitigating circumstances which all contributed to the defeat at OT – half the first team out injured, many of the second team also injured, A CL tie with Milan on Weds and yes probably the manager and the players had their focus on that, which is poor but 5 points clear with the most goals scored is a very strong position. Arsenal have been the most consistent team this season, bearing in mind the money spent by ManU, Chelsea and Liverpool Arsenal are flying! I suppose when ManU were slapped by their city rivals a week earlier in a far more humiliating and meaningful result you were writing off their season too. Fuckwit.

Gilberto – gotta agree with your take … he is so obviously out of sorts this season it’s hard to believe but surely his days are numbered at Arsenal now. Diarra should have stayed at the club and Wenger said as much, the kid just needed a bit more patience. On a positive note perhaps now we will get to see Diaby make his presence known in central midfield.

I was unfortunate enough to have made the long journey up to Manchester at the weekend and i have to say that Wenger really needs to take a long, hard look at himself, certainly as far as team selection goes. I mean did he not learn anything from the mulling at the Lane?. Armand Traore is very defensively inept and Justin Hoyte for all his willingness to graft was hardly going to shackle the almost unplayable Nani.Which brings us to the midfield where Anderson was running riot, at least until i had seen enough to get back on the M6.
Bottom Line is Gilberto Siva is well past it and to think that Arsene let Diarra join Pompey just so Gilberto could get a bit more play time is genuinely DIABOLICAL.I learnt my lesson from last season,Clearly Arsene hasnt!!!!!

Nice one! Suits him the best!

Yeah Cups losts won’t effect Arsenal but will make them come in stronger in the League and CL. Arsenal had a terrible long list of injuries (which is a great reason not an excuse), plus playing with some Carling Cup players like Hoyte and Traore. And had a bigger fish to fry which is AC Milan, the team that slapped your red face club 3-0 last time out.

So if we beat AC Milan, you MU fans will shut up??. I don’t think will celebrate this meaningless game that you won impressively all season long cse you will only have FA Cup to hide your faces when Arsenal win the league..and CL for MU this season?? Give me a break!

Now how was the feeling your local rivals man city (that we beat 3-1 at their ground earlier) kick your red asssess as well in the league game plus on a very historic day plus did double on you guys after some bloody years plus dropping points that can cause you the league????? Better than we feel when our team beaten by your team in a Cup game which was not a prirority and which many of us Arsenal fans knew we can lose it????? I don’t think so…lol!

Silva asked the armband not be giving to him again for taking it back will offend(go figure). His rate of regression is something to behold – he continues to grumble about not getting enough playing time only to disappoint any time he gets some.
His countrymen/women are less enthused about him in their national team for his form is as pathetic on that stage too.

Don’t forget that Bacary Sagna’s brother unexpectedly and shockingly died. While we tend (as supporters) to think that players are machines, you have to think that a shocker like that is bound to effect the team emotionally, and put football in the back of everyone’s mind. Concern for their teammate surely was running thru the squad. No one will ever admit it, no one will say it, but I suspect that it was a factor.

for gods sake lay off gilberto we are going to need him between now and the end of the season is he not a defensive player…. yes .. and that is how he plays thats his job and nobody does it better in the arsenal team….gilberto does bring a calmness to the team when things go wrong….. also gilberto is a loyal player still fighting for his place ….. where is diarra now PORTSMOUTH …. dont be surprised if arsene wenger extends gilbertos contract at the end of the season arsenal sometimes let players over 30 leave too soon and i think this is wrong….this guy is much too humble and really was hurt over the captains armband situation..being on the bench does not suit gilberto ….. but he does it because he is an exceptional team player ….. back gilberto show him some support and loyalty….. the same he has done for arsenal ……. GUNNERS FOR THE TITLE
