Arsenal’s New Signing

Your Guess Is As Good As Ours.

Everybody wants him. But if you ask for his name, nobody could tell you. But he’s the talk of the town as far as Arsenal fans are concerned. The trouble is, we don’t know anything about him, who he is and if he even exists. All we know is, we want him. And Wenger has until Monday night to sign that player every Arsenal fan cant wait to hear about.

But who are we actually close to signing? The truth is, nobody. If Wenger is about to add to the squad, nobody outside the club knows who he is. But is that such a bad thing? Bakary Sagna came from out of the blue, and (along with Gael Clichy), was our most consistent player during the 07/08 campaign. Eduardo Da Silva, also a surprise signing, played brilliantly until of course the tragic game against Birmingham City, where he broke his leg. So not knowing who we are about to sign, isn’t necessarily a bad thing, and we all know that small names could lead to very big things.

Of course we have all heard about the potential signing of players such as Xabi Alonso, Gareth Barry, Yaya Toure and Andrei Arshavin. But who else is lurking in the background? Mouhamadou Dabo, the French-Senegalese defender has been linked, along with the likes of Jeremy Toulalan, the French Central midfielder from Lyon, and also the Dutch-Canadian Jonathan De Guzman who also plays in the midfield.

One thing’s for sure. If Wenger intends on buying someone, you wont hear about it until he wants you to.

However for the moment, these are just a handful of names that are circling around the half dried up transfer market, and none of them have any significance as of yet. But those of you who know Wenger, the chances are, we will sign someone that hasn’t been mentioned in this list, or any list for that matter, and is totally unexpected. To be honest as long as he’s good and he gets the job done, I can’t see many people complaining.

But what if Wenger decides that the squad doesn’t need additions? What if the transfer deadline comes and goes, and we haven’t made our fourth signing? Well one things for sure, the Arsenal ‘fans’ will be hurling the abuse at Wenger as if he just blew his nose on the Union Jack. And for what? Moaning and whining won’t improve our next performance. Getting behind the team and saying ‘We can do this’ might just help get us through.

After all, failure to sign wouldn’t be a massive blow. We do have good quality players who can fill the gap in both the defence and the midfield. Silvestre is an experienced centre back, as well as a solid left back. We also now have Johan Djourou who looks to be impressing in the games he has played thus far. Then we have Alex Song, who can play as either an extremely solid centre back, or defensive midfielder. And I don’t think Arsenal fans have many qualms about this young prospect, as he’s very hard working and hard to get past. And of course we have Abou Diaby, the tall, commanding central midfielder who reminds us all of Vieira. But there are question marks over his ability at this point in time. Let’s not forget our new signing Aaron Ramsey also.

Time will tell us how this whole scenario will unfold, but try not to get it to effect your outlook on the season. After all, one player cant win you the league. But then again…He sure can help.
