After Lassana Diarra’s £20 million move from Portsmouth to Real Madrid – of which Arsenal are said to have received 25% – A gaping hole is left in the center of the Pompey midfield. To fix it, Tony Adams is about to do a Wenger and go for the cheap option, trying to bring in his old team mate for as little as £1 million.
Valencia’s sporting director
“Some clubs have asked about Edu but we have not received any formal offers regarding his exit in January.”
“I do not know about Portsmouth but his agent has some options and a meeting is possible to discuss this. The decision depends on coach Unai Emery.”
“English football is always very interesting and nothing is discarded.”
“There is interest from some clubs in Edu but I await more news and after that I will speak with Valencia.”
As it is, Edu would be the ideal choice to fix our midfield woes and by doing so perhaps save our season.
With Cesc Fabregas looking set to be out for 3 months minimum, our already soft spine is on the verge of collapse. Not only will we miss our captain’s influence on the pitch, this will be a massive psychological blow to the squad.
Who will rally the troops? Gallas has taken himself out of the hierarchy and Kolo is a bench player now. Who are we left with? Almunia, Robin and Adebayor. Not overly encouraging.
We are being linked to all kinds of people. Elano, Defour and more. One thing is obvious, we need reinforcements there come January and if Wenger chooses not to so as to not disturb the development of the likes of Diaby, Ramsey and Merida I will not be very impressed.
Edu could be the person to solve our problem. I was gutted when he left, not as much as when Flamini left but still pretty gutted. The guy was a class act but majorly unlucky when it came to injuries and competition. I was bitter that Arsene refused to meet his wage demands and seemed to prefer Gilberto over him.
Anyone remember the F.A Cup tie a few years ago against United? We won 2-0 and Edu was superb, scoring from a free kick and setting up Sylvain Wiltord for a comfortable win. And this was in an under strength side…
He is an experienced player with international and premier league appearance. He has won trophies and some of the biggest clubs in the world wanted him when he was about to leave us. He would be cheap and could take over Cesc’s role in the midfield before slotting into a more defensive one when he comes back. To top it all off, he is injury prone which should cause Arsene to fall head over heels in love with him.
He has 18 international caps, has played for the club before, is a physical presence and has won the F.A Cup and Premier League. As an added bonus, I believe he holds British citizenship.
He was simply superb for the unbeaten season and whilst I know his recent playing record does not boggle the mind, we’ve taken a chance on injury prone players before and benefitted. This guy has quality.
I hope Arsene does not let his pride cloud his judement. He’s never resigned a player so I hope Edu is the first.
Bring Edu Back!
